“What Will I Be When I Grow Up?”

Amman, Jordan 2015

A boy from looking up to a caterpillar wondering about the changes he will himself will be faced with. “What will you be in the future?” is what we asked the children playing in the dusty parking lot in Jabal Al Weibdeh, the old part of Amman, Jordan. The kids who helped us paint this mural got to write their names and their future professions onto the wall. The only girl from the neighborhood who dared to join the group of rascal boys, wrote that she wants to become a lawyer. An adult who watched the activity asked if he could also write what he is dreaming of. He had just lost his job in a bank.

We wish all of the helpers the very best in realizing those dreams. We hope for the Jordanian people as a whole that the state can keep its stability in these rough times.

The mural was part of an Urban Art Festival called “The Word Is Yours”, curated by Samantha Robison from aptART and Shermine Sawalha. It took place from October 2nd-3rd, 2015, and hosted a number of regional artists. We hope that Jordan´s streets will continue to get a little more colorful. Good luck!
