spraypaint and acrylic on furniture
The Coachella is a annual music and arts festival in the Californian desert close to Palm Springs. Akut had painted a canvas there before with our friends from The Do LaB years ago, but for Coachella 2013 we got to do something really rare: paint the shell of a gigantic snail, that actually moved around and all over the festival fields. The minds behind that concept and all the technical aspects of the project was the team from the Los Angeles based Poetic Kinetics Inc.
The theme we chose for the painting were characters from The Giant Storybook Project. The title of the work was an African saying that Akut had found on is recent trip to Johannesburg. It said: “If You Want To Go Fast, Go Alone. If You Want To Go Far, Go Together.”

Go Far… Director’s cut
Poetic Kinetics created this unique film concept where a large scale animatronic Snail puppet performed live in the crowd at the Coachella music festival in slow motion while being filmed at one frame per second in time-lapse. The resulting motion of the Snail is revealed while the whole environment speeds up and in a wonderful frenetic colorful way. Enjoy.
Conceived, created and produced by Poetic Kinetics. For more information on Poetic Kinetics go to http://www.poetickinetics.com/
When Lucent Met Herakut
In February 2012 we joined creative forces with the L.A. based dance company Lucent Dossier Experience for a crazy performance on the historic stage of the infamous Palace Theater on Los Angeles Broadway. In only three weeks of preparation time inside the Lucent Lighthouse we were able to create a crazy world of dynamic cirque performances with live music, work with beautiful dance acts, with fire and aerial elements and live-painting parts all in Herakut style masks and costumes tailored after Herakut drawings.
